My Background in Gymnastics...
Everyone who enters yoga does it from a different angle. I first discovered Western Mysticism through the Rosicrucian Order, AMORC, then later connected with the Eastern studies of yoga and Buddhism. Long before I discovered Hatha yoga, I had a love for gymnastics, which I practiced from about 1960 until about 1978.
These are some photos taken during January, 1976 in Washington Square Park, New York City. The temperature was 28 degrees.
Back then I vowed that I would ALWAYS be able to do a handstand. I have kept that promise.
This one of me in the "chest stand pose," was taken at the New York Health and Racquet Club on 13th Street, New York City. The club members and staff were very good to me and gave me a wonderful welcome into the world of professional fitness. Special thanks to Jackie Storm, then manager of the club. (The hand of a belly-dancing instructor at the club, now barely remembered, is on the left.)
